Rockies’ Raimel Tapia almost makes game-saving catch, but Cubs win at Coors Field

The catch that wasn’t cost the Rockies dearly Wednesday night at Coors Field. In the fifth inning, the Chicago Cubs loaded the bases against Jon Gray with two-out singles by Rafael Ortega and Wilson Contreras and a walk by Ian Happ. Patrick Wisdom worked the count 2-2 before he lifted Gray’s slider deep to left field. Raimel Tapia almost made a brilliant, leaping catch against the wall — indeed the ball was in the webbing of his glove — but when his glove banged into a stanchion, the ball popped free and Wisdom had a three-run double. And the Cubs had a 3-2 victory in LoDo. “It was really simple,” Tapia said.
