Champaign County courts employee announces candidacy for circuit clerk

Robert 'Bob' Burkhalter, 44, of Champaign announced Wednesday his candidacy for the Democratic nomination to the office now held by Katie Blakeman.

URBANA — A 12-year employee of the Champaign County court system plans to run in the March 2020 primary for Champaign County circuit clerk.

Two hurt in two-vehicle crash at intersection west of Champaign

According to a Champaign County sheriff's report, a black Nissan was headed south on Rising Road at 11:12 a.m. when it entered the intersection with Springfield Avenue as a semitrailer truck hauling gasoline was approaching from the east.

CHAMPAIGN — Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning west of Champaign.

 

Police investigating incident at Danville housing complex

Residents who were walking to a nearby grocery store said they observed a man lying in the middle of Lewis Lane near Fairchild Street on the south end of the complex.

DANVILLE — Danville police are investigating a possible shooting at the Fair Oaks Public housing complex.
Emergency medical personal responded to the complex for a call for a gunshot victim sometime before 2 p.m. today.

 

Champaign man cleared of church burglary charges

After about 90 minutes of deliberation, the six men and six women jury found Derrick A. Cox not guilty of burglary and theft for allegedly possessing stolen goods.

URBANA — A Champaign County jury on Wednesday acquitted a Champaign man of allegations that he burgled the same Champaign church twice within hours earlier this year.

 

UPDATED: Danville shooting victim identified

Coroner Jane McFadden said an autopsy is being done Wednesday on 33 year-old Cedric M. Halthon of Danville.

Update 10:05 a.m. Wednesday:The Vermilion County Coroner has released the name of the man who was shot and killed Tuesday night in Danville.Coroner Jane McFadden identified the man as 33 year-old Cedric M. Halthon of Danville.

 

Champaign council OKs developing guidelines for sponsoring special events

The city currently has none in place for determining the amount of money the city gives out or reimburses or that addresses the staff impact of processing applications and handing out money.

CHAMPAIGN — Champaign City Council members directed staff Tuesday to prepare a policy setting guidelines for how the city sponsors and funds special events.
