The number of patients being treated for COVID-19 in Iowa hospitals declined Thursday morning to 1,269 — the first time since Nov. 15 it has dipped below 1,300.While the drop from 1,305 a day earlier is good news for hospitals enacting emergency plans for coping with a surge of coronavirus patients, it is a mixed bag at best. The number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients in the state still is triple what it was during the next-largest surge in April.
