In the Shoes of Sholem Aleichem, the Austrian-born entertainer lived to tell the tale and has spent most of his life ever since preserving Yiddish culture through song and dance. Director John Lollos, who produced and wrote the film with Marsha Lebby, met Bikel while working with him on a PBS documentary about Jewish music. Ex-MPAA members advising filmmakersFormer members of the MPAA have formed a new company to help filmmakers navigate Hollywood's notoriously unpredictable movie rating machinery. "Often, filmmakers are surprised by MPAA opinion on what constitutes suitable material for a particular age group," Fridkin says. "When we started the festival in 2005, we wanted to combat what we saw as this sort of mess out there on YouTube and the digital world," festival co-founder John Ketchum says.
