Trees can't be cut down in campgrounds, at trailheads, in designated wilderness areas, developed recreation sites, posted timber sale spots, recently planted areas and administrative sites or within 50 feet of any lake, stream or wetland. The Forest Service also is urging people when they make their selection to consider that trees protect watersheds and provide habitat for wildlife.
