Amazon is developing an original TV series centred on Lisbeth Salander, the character originally created by Stieg Larsson for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, the first book in his best-selling Millennium series of novels. Variety reports that the spin-off series planned for Amazon's streaming service will not be a direct sequel or continuation of any previous books or movies but rather a standalone story that places Salander in the entirely new setting of "today's world", where she will be surrounded by new characters and challenges. Lisbeth Salander is the primary character in Larsson's award-winning Millennium series.
