Harris County Files $23 Million Suit Against Energy Companies For 2010 Gulf Disaster

According to the lawsuit, the companies, which primarily include BP, Transocean, Halliburton Energy Services and their related businesses, engaged in "grossly negligent, wanton and reckless conduct in the drilling operation of the Macondo well," which was the site of the drilling and the April 20, 2010 explosion. After the Gulf oil spill, our county suffered a significant reduction in economic activity, as shown by the loss of tens of millions of dollars in revenues from the hotel occupancy tax and business personal property taxes.
