Hedging Losses Drive Ual 4q Loss Of $1.3 Billion

MINNEAPOLIS -- United Airlines parent UAL Corp. today said it lost $1.3 billion in the fourth quarter because of operating losses and fuel-price bets that turned sour as oil prices fell. Without the bad hedges, results were better than analysts had expected.
