NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (AP) — State health officials have recommended the closure to swimming of a beach in Narragansett because of high bacteria counts. The Rhode Island Department of Health said Thursday that water quality tests will continue at Scarborough Beach. The beach will be recommended for reopening when bacteria levels return to within acceptable limits. The department monitors water quality regularly from Memorial Day through Labor Day to make sure conditions are safe for swimming. The state has over 400 miles of coastline.
