FX’s slow burn thriller The Americans is artfully complex and harrowing in its relevance. Set in 1982, the series centers on Philip and Elizabeth Jennings (Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell), a pair of KGB operatives posing as married suburbanites. As the two conspire, seduce and kill in the name of Mother Russia, they wrestle with maintaining their cover and the feelings they’ve developed for one another.Rhys ever-evolving portrayal of Philip has been one of the main draws of the show and season three (debuting on Jan 28) is no different.
