James Cameron is not so fond of J.J. Abrams directing of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Cameron, who directed Avatar and Titanic, was asked about the film during an interview and said candidly that it lacked “visual imagination” and that he had recently discussed the Disney blockbuster with the series’ original director George Lucas. “I have to say that I felt that George’s group of six films had more innovative visual imagination, and this film was more a retrenchment to things you had seen before and characters you had seen before,” Cameron said in an interview spotted on YouTube by The Wrap. Cameron does point earlier in the interview that he has “a lot of respect” for Abrams and has said previously that he did not want to release the upcoming Avatar sequel, scheduled for December 2018, at the same time as any of the Star Wars movies.
