Kansas Republicans are collectively having a very bad week. First up, a new Suffolk poll show a troubling trend for Senator Pat Roberts (R-VA): Greg Orman, an independent candidate who has never won political office, now leads veteran Republican Sen. Pat Roberts of Kansas by 46 percent-41 percent in the most surprising Senate race of the year, a new USA TODAY/Suffolk University poll finds. And adding to Roberts' woes is Wednesday's decision by the Shawnee District Court, ruling that Democrats do not need to name a new Senate candidate on the November ballot, following Chad Taylor's withdrawal from the race last month. Roberts is also feeling the heat from disgruntled Kansas tea partiers.
