Lisa Borders’ love of women’s basketball and the WNBA can be traced several years back to a luncheon in New York that featured former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. During her speech, Albright said something that stuck with Borders, something Albright recently repeated while stumping for presidential candidate Hillary Clinton: “There’s a special place in hell reserved for women who don’t support other women.” Borders, who fell in love with the game of basketball as a student at Duke, called some friends after that luncheon and said they were going to figure out a way to bring a women’s professional basketball team to Atlanta.
