Roderick Hughes-Smith of Madison Heights is currently in a coma at Detroit Receiving Hospital after trying to defend a co-worker at a nearby bar. He was nearly beaten to death at the Well, located at 1228 Randolph Street in Detroit.The incident happened shortly after 2 a.m. Thursday.
