NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Shares of independent energy company Marathon Oil fell 4.9% to $27.20 in afternoon trading Monday as oil prices hit new five-and-a-half-year lows. West Texas Intermediate crude dropped below $50 for the first time since April 2009 to an intraday low of $49.95 a barrel in late morning trading.
