As far as young-adult-novel dystopian societies go, the boys in "The Maze Runner" have it pretty good. Think "Lord of the Flies," without all the jerks. They live as captives inside a quarrylike landscape, with social order, livestock and even a distillery for underage drinking. Monsters making scary noises at night seem safely on the other side of the wall.
