  • Movies Hidden Figures Editor Calls Out Glen Powell's Claims About The Film's Rough Cut
    Movieweb, 06/04/2024 - 3:51pm

The Oscar-nominated historical drama Hidden Figures recently received some criticism from star Glen Powell, who played real-life astronaut John Glenn, but it seems that someone who doesn't agree with the actor's comments is editor Peter Teschner. Last month, Powell spoke about his reaction to seeing a rough cut of the film, which he said caused him to throw up due to his performance in what was a bare-bones presentation of the film without any special effects or music.

  • Politics Not Lovin' It: Nigel Farage Is Milkshaked In Clacton
    Crooks and Liars, 06/04/2024 - 1:21pm

To commemorate Farage's first day of campaigning, a young woman threw her milkshake in his face, the same as happened in 2019 when Farage ran in Newcastle. Source: The Sun NIGEL Farage was drenched with MILKSHAKE by a young woman today as his general election campaign got off to a soggy start. The Reform Party leader left his event in the Essex seaside town of Clacton when he was splattered with the McDonald's banana drink. It is the second time the Brexit champion has been swilled - having been covered head-to-toe in Newcastle in 2019. Mr Farage had just left the Moon and Starfish Wetherspoon - where he kicked off his battle for Parliament - when he was targeted. A blonde woman pushed her way through the vast crowds before hurling her milkshake at the Reform leader from point-blank range. Members of his entourage - including former leader Richard Tice - looked on horrified as the yellowy substance was chucked. • Books Readers Take Denver cancels 2025 conference after attendees decry “Fyre Festival of books”
    Denver Post, 05/02/2024 - 5:00am

Several thousand romance readers from across the country descended on the Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Center two weeks ago for Readers Take Denver, billed as a four-day conference where bibliophiles would have the chance to mingle with their favorite authors, get books signed, and attend panels and other events. But attendees say the April 18-21 conference was so disorganized and chaotic — self-described “RTD survivor” Kelli Meyer referred to it as “the Fyre Festival of books” — that authors soon began pulling out of next year’s event at the Aurora hotel, which already was on sale. This week, Readers Take Denver announced its 2025 edition was canceled. “I’ve been to many conferences and this, by far, was the worst one I’ve ever been to,” said Sarah Slusarczyk, a 32-year-old who traveled from Michigan.

  • Travel A weekend guide in Ouray, the country’s No. 1 vacation destination of 2024
    Denver Post, 04/15/2024 - 5:00am

Editor’s note: This is part of The Know’s series, Staff Favorites. Each week, we offer our opinions on the best that Colorado has to offer for dining, shopping, entertainment, outdoor activities and more. (We’ll also let you in on some hidden gems). My birthday is close to Memorial Day weekend every year, and I like to take advantage of the long weekend by checking a town off of my Colorado travel list. In years past, my friends and I have soaked up the San Juan Mountain views in the warmth of the Pagosa hot springs and gone whitewater rafting in Class 4 rapids down the Royal Gorge in Cañon City.
