New Big East gets 12-year Fox deal, MSG lease

The new Big East officially has its core members, its television deal and a lease to play its conference tournament where the old Big East played it. All that came with the expected announcement Wednesday that Butler, Creighton and Xavier joined seven basketball-playing Catholic schools starting their own league this summer, a conference that has a 12-year deal with Fox Sports and assumes the lease on Madison Square Garden for its championship tournament.

The New York Knicks finally got a return on their two years of self-induced misery on Monday, finishing up the final touches on a five-year contract for Phoenix Suns free agent forward Amar'e Stoudemire that is expected to be worth around $100 million. A source indicates a formal announcement from Stoudemire should be forthcoming within the hour at Madison Square Garden.

Senh: Getting Amare Stoudemire is pretty good for the Knicks, especially since he's re-uniting with former Phoenix Suns coach Mike D'Antoni. Although I don't see how they can be title contenders playing for a coach not known for defense. I guess like the Suns, they'll at least be entertaining.

 

MSG Launching First 3D Sportscast in U.S.

Next week's Islanders-Rangers game is more than local hockey rivals facing off: It will be the first show broadcast in the U.S. in 3D, a burgeoning trend that sports fan are sure to embrace eagerly.
