North Carolina has made a step toward clean energy by denying the permit needed for further construction on a pipeline. The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) has denied a key permit to the Mountain Valley Pipeline that would have extended the project by 75 miles. The Mountain Valley Pipeline was expected to be extended from where it ends in Chatham, Virginia to Graham, North Carolina.
