An estimated 400 babies in Oklahoma will die before their first birthday this year, and 100 of those babies will be born in Oklahoma County. And a disproportionate number of those babies will be black, an issue that Oklahoma City’s health leaders are trying to tackle. Although Oklahoma’s statewide infant mortality rate has improve, the same cannot be said for babies born to black parents. “Over the past several years, actually there’s a trend down in infant mortality, a reduction in infant mortality,” said Kelli McNeal, the fetal and infant mortality review supervisor at Oklahoma City-County Health Department.Read more on NewsOK.com
