More than 1,000 people are believed to have died statewide from heroin and other opiate-related overdoses last year, according to stunning new data released today by the state.The 1,008 deaths — 600 of which are confirmed, plus another 408 that are considered estimates — mark a 33 percent spike since 2012 and could be the highest ever recorded in the state, according to state officials.
