When 2020 began, Christine Serr could see the horizon. “We had a normal opening schedule planned for the next two years,” said the owner of Abend Gallery and Gallery 1261 in Lower Downtown. “Right now, we are definitely in a holding pattern.” That holding pattern covers a lot of ground. Serra will soon launch 52 consecutive solo shows on Abend’s website while continuing to invest in the online sales that have shielded the business (so far, anyway) from the worst of the national economic downturn. Serr is also in the process of moving Gallery 1261 and Abend from their space at 1412 Wazee St. – which they have long shared with K Contemporary gallery — to a new one in the gallery-rich Golden Triangle Creative District.
