SILVER SPRING, Md. — In the past 20 years, the Maryland suburbs just outside Washington, D.C., have boomed, and that population growth has been accompanied by development and even tourists. Now when folks visit Washington, they may choose to stay in hotels just outside the capital in Silver Spring, Rockville or Bethesda, cities in Maryland that are all connected to Washington by the Metro light rail.
