'America's Got Talent' Recap: Escape Artists, Brass Bands and TV Theme Singers Audition in Tampa

NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” visited Tampa, Florida, Monday night for a round of auditions that included a brass band, an escape artist and a TV theme singer. Judges Sharon Osbourne, Howie Mandel and Howard Stern decided which acts would go home and which would advance.

As promised, the setup for the episode had boss Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin) delivering the bad news that, as a cost-cutting measure, "TGS," the fictitious show-within-a-show produced by Liz Lemon (series star Tina Fey), would henceforth be filmed, not broadcast live.

Although Lauer won't make the official announcement until tomorrow, NBC News confirms that the Today cohost has signed a long-term deal with the show. "Matt is the franchise, and our franchise player has decided to keep leading our team," Steve Capus, President of NBC News, told The New York Times.

 

Trailer from Houston's new film debuts on 'Today'

Viewers got a first glimpse of Whitney Houston's upcoming film Monday when NBC's "Today" show premiered a trailer for the much-awaited release, and a fuller clip debuted on Yahoo! Movies. A remake of the 1976 original, "Sparkle" stars Houston as the mother of three girls who form a singing group and struggle with fame and drug addiction. The trailer displayed the daughters, including "American Idol" winner Jordin Sparks, in performance. Houston is prominent throughout, at one point singing the classic gospel song "His Eye Is on the Sparrow."
