With the success of "The Voice," NBC recently announced that it will expand the singing competition to two nights for the live shows starting on April 2. The live performance shows will air for two hours on Mondays at 8 p.m. EST with the eliminations announced during an one-hour results show airing on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EST.

Having the top show on television presents a rare opportunity for any network, but especially NBC, which has been so far behind for so long... This week “The Voice” emerged as the unlikely winner of its own reality competition. With a 6 rating, it displaced Fox’s long-running “American Idol” as America’s top-rated television series.

“Community” will return to NBC in mid-March, ending the “streets ahead” comedy’s forced hiatus that began after the Christmas episode aired in December. Creator Dan Harmon broke the news on Twitter: “What you call 8:00, we call home. Community returns to Thursday nights on March 15th.” Megan Ganz, a writer for the show, put it a different way: “We're back! We're Backstreet Boys. We're Burt Bacharach. We're Back To The Future. We're back.”

The second week of NBC’s singing competition, “The Voice,” snagged more than 16 million viewers Monday from 8 to 10 p.m. — the time slot in which the network had averaged a measly 5.6 million viewers this season.

Michelle Obama will be making her first late-night stop since becoming the First Lady. On Tuesday, Jan. 31, Obama will appear on NBC's The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and is expected to chat about her "Let's Move" campaign. She will also discuss what life is like for her family in the White House and tout her book, American Grown, about the White House kitchen garden to be released in April.

While Casey Anthony sightings have been scarce in the six months since she was cleared of killing her toddler daughter Caylee, the 25-year-old has resurfaced in a video that she apparently recorded herself in October. “It’s just a little surreal how much things have changed since July and how many things haven’t changed,” Anthony says in the 4 ½ minute video, which aired on TODAY Thursday. NBC News has confirmed that it is Anthony on camera.

Super Bowl spots are still the hottest ticket in advertising. NBC has sold all the commercial airtime for the Feb. 5 game in Indianapolis and even has a waiting list of advertisers. The average cost for a 30-second spot this year was $3.5 million, with some time slots costing as much as $4 million.

Ten NBC-owned television stations will team with nonprofit news outlets in an attempt to beef up their enterprise and analytical reporting.

The Material Girl will be taking the stage on football's biggest night. Madonna, who has sold more than 300 million records, will perform at halftime of the Super Bowl in Indianapolis. The NFL and NBC announced Sunday during the Detroit-New Orleans game that the Grammy Award-winning singer will highlight the show at Lucas Oil Stadium on Feb. 5.

CBS procedural repeats and FOX's broadcast of the first "Iron Man" film led the way on a rather sluggish post-holiday Friday night. Among adults 18-49, FOX averaged a 1.2 rating, tops in the key demographic. The other networks were close behind with ABC's 1.1 rating and the 1.0 ratings for CBS and NBC. The CW averaged a 0.4 rating for the night.
