New York City's prostitutes have gotten the Facebook bug. City sex workers are now increasingly plying their trade on Facebook, after popular classifieds website Craigslist shut its Erotic Services section last year, according to a recent study.

Craigslist Inc.'s move to take down its adult-services listings is permanent, the online classified site's lawyer said in prepared comments to be delivered to the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday.

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan says that Craigslist is getting rid of its "erotic services" ads and will create a new adult category that Web site employees will review.

Three state attorneys general plan to meet with Craigslist representatives to begin negotiations toward eliminating advertisements from the site for prostitution and other suspected illegal sexual activities.

The online forum and classified site Craigslist is once again under fire from law enforcement for running advertisements for erotic services.
