Exec: NBC's 'Today' show making leadership change

NBC is changing the backstage leadership at its struggling "Today" show, which has consistently been behind ABC's "Good Morning America" in the ratings since replacing Ann Curry as an anchor this summer.

Dems: "Better off" question needs context

Democrats say answering the question of whether Americans are better off now than they were four years ago requires some context. Massachusetts Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren tells NBC's "Today" show Tuesday that people should remember how far the economy fell and how hard it is to get back from a time when the stock market was crashing and the auto industry was a mess. She says the real issue is who has the best plan to move forward.

London Olympics huge boost to NBC's 'Today' show

NBC's hopes that the London Olympics would boost the struggling "Today" show have been rewarded and then some. The once-dominant morning news show beat ABC's "Good Morning America" by an average of 1.6 million viewers each day last week, the Nielsen ratings company said Monday. That's the most dominant week for "Today" since the Vancouver Olympics in 2010.

'Today' Show Ratings Sinking

A majority of morning viewers has greeted the arrival of Savannah Guthrie with a yawn in her first week as "Today" show co-anchor.

NBC's "Today" was beaten last week by ABC archrival "Good Morning America" by 357,000 viewers, the Nielson Co. said. "GMA" drew an average of 4.57 million viewers, compared with 4.21 million for "Today," according to preliminary Nielsen figures released Monday. This represents the largest lead by "GMA" over "Today" in more than 17 years, while extending its top-ranked status to three consecutive weeks, ABC said.

Senh: Maybe the sinking ratings isn't Ann Curry's fault after all.

Curry Set to Announce Departure From 'Today'

Ann Curry

She confirmed in the interview that the exit was NBC’s idea, not her own, and said she considered leaving the network altogether. Instead, she has accepted a proposal to become a roving correspondent for the network. Although co-hosting “Today” was her dream job, she said, “In my secret heart of hearts, I see this as a thrilling opportunity. To have a ticket to every big story in the world — no small matter.”

Senh: She's given them twenty years; the least they could do is give her a couple years to work things out.

Media Decoder: NBC Prepares to Replace Ann Curry on ‘Today’

The Today Show

Planning to replace Ms. Curry only a year after she became a co-host is effectively an admission that all is not well at “Today,” whose once reliably high ratings have dropped.

NBC News reportedly fires producer of edited George Zimmerman tape

NBC News has fired a producer who worked on a 'Today' show segment that featured a heavily edited 911 recording in which George Zimmerman appears to racially profile Trayvon Martin before the teen's shooting, according to The New York Times.

NBC probe centers on staffer in shooting story error

An internal NBC News probe has determined a "seasoned" producer was to blame for a misleading clip of a 911 call that the network broadcast during its coverage of the Trayvon Martin shooting, according to two sources at the network.

Matt Lauer Signs Long-Term Deal With Today

Matt Lauer

Where in the world in Matt Lauer? Looks like he'll be at Rockefeller Plaza for quite a while. Although Lauer won't make the official announcement until tomorrow, NBC News confirms that the Today cohost has signed a long-term deal with the show. "Matt is the franchise, and our franchise player has decided to keep leading our team," Steve Capus, President of NBC News, told The New York Times.

Trailer from Houston's new film debuts on 'Today'

Viewers got a first glimpse of Whitney Houston's upcoming film Monday when NBC's "Today" show premiered a trailer for the much-awaited release, and a fuller clip debuted on Yahoo! Movies. A remake of the 1976 original, "Sparkle" stars Houston as the mother of three girls who form a singing group and struggle with fame and drug addiction. The trailer displayed the daughters, including "American Idol" winner Jordin Sparks, in performance. Houston is prominent throughout, at one point singing the classic gospel song "His Eye Is on the Sparrow."
