New 'Man of Steel' Trailer Has Super Gravitas

Man of Steel - MWB

He's a brilliant visual stylist, but the knock on Zack Snyder as a director is that he too often neglects real storytelling in favor of pretty pictures. The latest Man of Steel trailer, however, suggests he may have made a quantum leap as a filmmaker.

It won't be out until November, but The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is one of the most highly anticipated sequels of the year, so Lionsgate isn't wasting any time whetting audiences' appetites with trailers.

'World War Z' Gets a New Trailer

World War Z

We've seen so many zombie movies at this point that the only way to add anything new to the genre is to approach it from a truly ridiculous angle (see: Warm Bodies). Kudos, then, to Marc Forster's World War Z -- it may not reinvent the zombie movie, but if this latest trailer is anything to go by, it makes up in souped-up thrills what it lacks in originality.

Monsters University

Also, while we're at it, hooray for Pixar, because Monsters University looks like the movie that'll re-establish the studio's follow-up bona fides after the critical train wreck that was Cars 2. To begin with, the premise was established organically; rather than following up on the adventures of Mike (Billy Crystal) and Sulley (John Goodman) after the closing curtain of Monsters, Inc. -- and trying to send them on a new, sequelriffic adventure -- it capitalizes on the duo's easy chemistry by focusing on how they met.

New 'Man of Steel' Trailer Features Neither Birds Nor Planes

Man of Steel

Up, up, and away! Zack Snyder faced an uphill battle with Man of Steel -- Superman really hasn't been a hot cinematic property since Richard Pryor made us line up for Superman III -- but this new trailer makes it look like he's ready to atone for his Sucker Punch sins with a movie that, against all odds, makes Superman super again.
