Taylor Swift Just Trademarked ‘this Sick Beat’

Nothing says Taylor Swift like fun times within tightly defined, strictly patrolled parameters, and the reigning queen of pop music–who rules the realm of modern media with an iron fist decorated with kitty stickers–has a cool new way for you to use some of her catchiest catch phrases: only with her explicit permission, under threat of legal action. A recent filing with the United States Patent and Trademark Office shows that Swift has applied to trademark several phrases from lyrics to her album 1989, including “Party like it’s 1989,” “‘Cause we never go out of style,” and the notorious “This sick beat” line from her rapped bridge on “Shake It Off.” This means that if you were planning on selling “This Sick Beat” shirts on Etsy, you should probably scrap them or face Swift’s super perky, toootally chill legal wrath.     Steve Bannon was ordered to report to prison on July 1st to begin a 4 month sentence for contempt of court after failing to comply with a lawful subpoena issued by the January 6th Committee. Immediately after being ordered to report to court, he was defiant, saying "Merrick Garland, Lisa Monaco, the entire Justice Department, they're not going to shut up Trump, they're not going to shut up Navarro, they're not going to shut up Bannon, and they're certainly not going to shut up MAGA." Well, just a week later, Bannon has changed his tune and is now begging the Appeals Court to intervene and pretty please keep him out of prison. Read the filing here.
