A concerned trauma surgeon at UF Health Jacksonville reported dangerously defective surgical gowns that allowed a patient’s blood to penetrate through to his skin in 2013. Hospital officials say the manufacturer replaced them with effective gowns after being notified about the problems and coming to the medical center to investigate the situation. The manufacturer now faces a $500 million class-action lawsuit accusing it of knowingly providing the faulty surgical gowns to health-care workers nationwide during the 2014 Ebola crisis. read more
