Unicorn Theatre’s ‘the Oldest Boy’ Falls Short Of Its Ambitions

The Unicorn Theatre opened its 2015-2016 season with a fine production of the oddly indecisive “The Oldest Boy,” by celebrated playwright Sarah Ruhl. The play wishes to be an imaginatively theatrical meditation on the interconnections among parenting, spirituality and mentorship. Its structure is unconventional and the ideas it touches on aspire to be provocative — but it fails to do much with that promise.
