Thousands of homes across McHenry County were without power Saturday because of strong winds and gusts up to 45 mph. The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory until 6 p.m. Wind advisories are issued when there are sustained winds of 30 mph. As of 1:20 p.m., northwest winds were blowing between 20 and 30 mph, with gusts as strong as 45 mph, according to the service. Driving may become difficult, and unsecured outdoor items can be blown around, according to the service. Scattered rain showers developed Saturday afternoon, and at times became mixed with wet snow.
