Breast-feeding advocates (and I count myself in their number) are eager to evangelize. We promote the image of a serene mother, flushed with oxytocin, nursing her newborn in a wooden rocking chair while moonlight streams through the window. But romanticizing breast-feeding may backfire, setting moms up to lose heart when lactation difficulties arise.
