In 2014, Fordham law professor Zephyr Teachout emerged as a political star of the progressive wing of the Democratic Party after challenging New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary elections and performing far better than expected. Teachout received 35 percent of the vote and won over twenty counties despite hardly raising any money.
