In many ways, Ava DuVernay is the face of the new Academy. Invited in a few years ago after "Middle of Nowhere" and before "Selma" scored a Best Picture nomination, DuVernay is now in the running for a spot on the Academy Board of Governors. Some 27 women out of 67 candidates are vying for positions on the board, which is comprised of three governors, elected each year, for each of 17 branches.
