Delegate votes in primaries can be ‘super important,’ party leader says

SPRINGFIELD – In presidential primary elections, it’s all about the delegates.

Delegates are the chosen representatives that attend each party’s nominating convention and give their support to a specified candidate.

A Democratic candidate this year will need 1,990 of 3,979 pledged delegates at the party’s national convention to receive the nomination on the first ballot, while any subsequent ballots will require 2,376 of all 4,750 delegate votes.

Man hospitalized after being pinned under truck at Huntley repair shop

A 29-year-old man was hospitalized Monday after being crushed under a vehicle at a truck repair shop, Huntley Police said.

Huntley Deputy Police Chief Michael Klunk said police and Huntley Fire Protection crews responded at 3:45 p.m.

 

Don Harmon, Oak Park Democrat, named Illinois Senate president

SPRINGFIELD – Senator Don Harmon, D-Oak Park, was elected as the 39th president of the Illinois Senate on Sunday after hours of behind-the-scenes negotiations.

Virginia's capital braces for gun-rights rally

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Gun-rights activists — some making deliberate displays of their military-style rifles — began to descend on Virginia's capital city Monday to protest plans by the state's Democratic leadership to pass gun-control legislation.

DNA tests confirm coyote captured in Chicago attacked boy

CHICAGO (AP) — Animal control officials in Chicago said Sunday that DNA tests confirm a coyote recently captured in the city is the same animal that attacked a 6-year-old boy.

An evaluation determined that the animal was shot with a BB gun, “which could have caused the limp in its movements as well as the aggressive behavior,” according to the Chicago Animal Care and Control's statement. Officials said they worked with the U.S.

 

Illinois law eliminates license suspension for non-moving violations

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Gov. J.B. Pritzker has signed a law that eliminates driver's license suspensions for most non-moving violations.

The Democrat signed the “License to Work Act” last week. It takes effect July.

Human-to-human transmission confirmed in China coronavirus

BEIJING (AP) — The head of a Chinese government expert team said Monday that human-to-human transmission has been confirmed in an outbreak of a new coronavirus, a development that raises the possibility that it could spread more quickly and widely.

Team leader Zhong Nanshan, a respiratory expert, said two people in Guangdong province in southern China caught the virus from family members, state media said.

Cold temperatures to continue this week across McHenry County region, meteorologists say

Cold temperatures will continue Monday and Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.Monday will be mostly sunny with a high of 22 to 25 degrees and lows around 5. Tuesday also will have highs in the 22- to 25-degree range and with a low around 15.
