SPRINGFIELD – The outgoing leader of the Illinois Senate offered a piece of advice for whoever next assumes the position – “bring everyone together.”

Chicago Democrat John Cullerton surprised his colleagues in November when he announced his intention to resign from the General Assembly.

 

Vacant Mandile's Restaurant building in Algonquin could see new use as church space

The pastor of Lifeline Christian Church in Algonquin wants to use the vacant Mandile’s Restaurant building at 2160 Lake Cook Road for services and other functions, he told the village’s Planning and Zoning Commission at its meeting earlier this week.

Lifeline pastor Dave Rudin said that up until this point, the church primarily has focused on developing people rather than finding a permanent place to meet.

2 missing teens found, McHenry County Sheriff's Office says

The two McHenry County teens who went missing Tuesday have been found, the McHenry County Sheriff's Office posted on its Facebook page Friday.

Eva Buxton and Colton Adeszko, both 16, were last seen Tuesday in the Johnsburg area before they were reported missing. Sheriff’s officials did not disclose what towns the teens live.

 

Man sentenced to probation for 2018 shooting

A McHenry man will not serve prison time for a 2018 shooting during which police say he fired a gun at his former wife and then turned the gun on himself.

McHenry County Judge Robert Wilbrandt on Friday sentenced 38-year-old William Chrisman to two years of probation and 52 days in jail for what the judge called "a horrific and tragic act." Now suffering a brain injury as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Chrisman has "punished himself" more than prison could, Wilbrandt said.

Harvard man charged in April overdose death

Police have arrested a 35-year-old man in connection with a Harvard resident's fatal drug overdose.

Jackson Santiago-Monsegur, of Harvard, is charged with drug-induced homicide and possession of a controlled substance.

 

Medical issue caused McHenry Starbucks crash, police say

A Wonder Lake man driving a pickup truck suffered a medical issue late Thursday afternoon, resulting in the truck crashing into a McHenry Starbucks and injuring five people, McHenry police said on Friday.

Five people were reported injured, two initially in critical condition, after a dark red, full-sized Dodge Ram pickup truck veered off the road at about 4:40 p.m. and crashed into a Starbucks east of the intersection of West Elm Street and Oak Drive.

Through the extraordinary and collaborative work of law enforcement, treatment providers, the McHenry County Substance Abuse Coalition, the Mental Health Board and Northwestern Medicine, the number of overdose-related deaths have been reduced precipitously to levels not seen since before the onset of the opioid epidemic.
