Suspect sought in New Haven robbery, attempted abduction

NEW HAVEN >> Police are looking for a man who allegedly followed a local couple on Orange Street, robbed them of $8 and then tried to abduct one of them. Officers were dispatched to the area of Orange and Pearl Streets at 2:37 a.m. on Monday to investigate a reported robbery. The victims had made it home to nearby Pleasant Street, from where they called police.

 

Ferry Street Bridge in New Haven will be closed Tuesday morning for maintenance

NEW HAVEN >> The Ferry Street Bridge will be closed Tuesday morning for maintenance and the city Department of Public Works is asking commuters to make alternative plans.The bridge will be closed from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday, according to Jeff Pescosolido, director of the department.Alternative routes across the Quinnipiac River include the Grand Avenue Bridge, Forbes Avenue, Quinnipiac Avenue to Route 80-Foxon Boulevard or I-95 Pearl Harbor Bridge.

 

New Haven police: 14-year-old shooting victim appears to have been targeted

NEW HAVEN >> A 14-year-old critically wounded in a Sunday night shooting appears to have been specifically targeted by the gunman.Assistant Chief Achilles Generoso reported Monday that the youth appears to be the "specific target of the shooter" based on what detectives learned so far. Evidence collected from the scene, including ballistics, is being inspected by forensic experts, he said.

 

Connecticut Republicans clarify changes they want to make to labor; unions warn against them

HARTFORD >> In case there was confusion, House Minority Leader Themis Klarides wrote lawmakers to make sure they understood she wants to change the state's relationship with labor, and the changes she's seeking would circumvent collective bargaining as it's conducted today for state employees."Under current law, the legislature cannot make wholesale changes to existing union contracts," Klarides wrote.

NEW HAVEN >> Police issued a Silver Alert for Tristian Beasley-Artis, 14, who went missing Sunday.Tristian is described as a Black male with black hair and brown eyes. He stands 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighs 130 pounds.He was last seen wearing brown shorts, a dark shirt and white sneakers.
