Future of hawk rescued by Hamden animal control is uncertain

HAMDEN >> An injured red-tailed hawk's health outlook remains uncertain after it sustained a serious injury to its wing Monday.The raptor was found at about 9:30 a.m. Animal Control Officer Christopher Smith responded to the area of Shepard and Sherman avenues on a report that an injured hawk was standing in the middle of the street, according to a release.

NORTH STONINGTON (AP) >> Connecticut State Police say a man was killed near his home when he was hit by a car that went off the road.Forty-one-year-old Christopher Bosma was killed Tuesday afternoon near his North Stonington home.Police say he was hit by a minivan that went off the road and shoulder.

Yale study: Drugs may reduce need for shunts to treat excess fluid on the brain.

NEW HAVEN >> Yale School of Medicine researchers may have found a way to treat a buildup of fluid on the brain using drugs already on the market rather than surgically implanting shunts into the skull.The ability to avoid shunts, which must be periodically replaced, to treat post-hemorrhagic hydrocephalus, would avoid infection and reduce stress on patients and their families, according to a Yale press release.

 

Silver Alert issued for New Haven girl, 16

NEW HAVEN >> A Silver Alert has been issued for Ricktorica Smith, 16.Smith is a black female with black hair and brown eyes. She is 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighs about 200 pounds, police said.She was last seen Monday, wearing a gray hooded jumpsuit and colorful sneakers.Anyone with any information on Smith's whereabouts should call police at 203-946-6321.
