A long-shot candidate to win the 2018 Democratic primary, much less the general election, Johnson was one of five black female candidates to get $10 donations and a social media boost from Jeff Yang, a New York-based writer and marketing expert. Yang asked his Twitter followers for their five favorite "black woman candidates" in honor of the high percentage of black women who voted in the Alabama election.
