'Other Guys' bumps 'Inception' from top spot

"The Other Guys" are the main guys at the boxoffice, knocking off "Inception" to take the No. 1 spot. The buddy-cop parody starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg made $35.6 million in its opening weekend, according to Sunday estimates from Sony Pictures.

Senh: Will Ferrell's back at the top again. It's been a while since he had a hit. "The Other Guys" even has great reviews.

'Other Guys' rings up $13.2 mil in first-day coin

'Other Guys' rings up $13.2 mil in first-day coin

Disney's 3D dance extravaganza was no match for Sony's buddy-cop comedy, which snagged $13.2 million on Friday. Sony's buddy-cop action comedy " The Other Guys," starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, sped to the top of the daily boxoffice rankings with an estimated $13.2 million from its first day in movie theaters on Friday.

Senh: It's an odd pairing, but "The Other Guys" got surprisingly good reviews. With Will Ferrell's string of box office duds lately ("Land of the Lost"), it's welcome news for him. "Step Up 3D" did ok, not nearly as well as the first two. I'm glad it's in 3D, so now studios can finally stop doing 3D conversions just to score an extra buck.

Critics Consensus: The Other Guys Cops Big Laughs

This week at the movies, Will Ferrell reunites with director Adam McKay (Step Brothers, Talladega Nights) to get absurd on the buddy cop comedy (The Other Guys, co-starring Mark Wahlberg); street dancing busts a move into the third dimension (Step Up 3D); and the Internet becomes a haven for porn entrepreneurs (Middle Men). What do the critics have to say? With the exception of Step Brothers (mixed at 55%), the McKay-Ferrell comedies tend to be viewed among the best of the star's movies, and The Other Guys is following suit.

Critics Consensus: The Hangover Is Certified Fresh

This week at the movies, we've got bachelor party mayhem (The Hangover, starring Bradley Cooper and Ed Helms), space-time continuum wackiness (Land of the Lost, starring Will Ferrell and Danny McBride), and travel travails (My Life in Ruins, starring Nia Vardalos and Richard Dreyfuss). What do the critics have to say?

There's nothing wrong with frat house comedy when it's done right. And critics say The Hangover is one of the best in recent years, a wild ride of debauchery and tastelessness that delivers laughs at a frightening clip.
