President Barack Obama announced he will designate Christopher Park, which is adjacent to the Stonewall Inn in New York City, as the Stonewall National Monument. It is the first national monument dedicated to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender rights. Christopher Park, which the president called a “historic” community park that serves as a hub for members of the LGBT community during parades, marches, protests, and celebrations, is to be dedicated on June 25—exactly one year following the historic Supreme Court decision on marriage equality.
