Prolific Colorado Springs Robber Gets 48-year Prison Sentence

A Pueblo man linked to his second robbery spree in the Pikes Peak region is headed back to a familiar place: prison. Tommy Lovell Kirtz was sentenced Tuesday to 48 years - an abrupt end to his second chance. Authorities say he was on parole for armed robbery in the so-called Paperboy robberies in the late 1990s when he robbed at least seven more businesses in Colorado Springs. "He knew what the possible penalties would be, yet he still did it time and time again," said prosecutor Jimmy Litle, who pushed for a 111-year sentence. Fourth Judicial District Judge David Prince ruled 48 years would be sufficient punishment while also giving each of Kirtz's victims a sense of justice. Read more on Colorado Springs Gazette
