Books of The Times: ‘Back to Work’ Has Bill Clinton’s Ideas for America - Review

Bill Clinton’s new book, “Back to Work,” is really several books in one slender volume. It’s a lucid one-man rebuttal of the Tea Party’s anti-government agenda. A series of shrewd talking points for Democrats trying to hold on to the White House and battling for control of Congress in the midst of a sour economy and growing voter discontent. A self-serving reminder of the prosperity the country enjoyed during Mr. Clinton’s tenure in the White House, meant to burnish his legacy. And a practical set of proposals — some borrowed and some new, some innovative and some highly sketchy — for restoring economic growth and creating jobs.

Senh: Good timing, former Mr. President. When he was president, we were prosperous. It should be interesting to hear what he has to say, however biased it is. Democrats are coming together just in time for the 2012 presidential election.

Obama cites income gap to push jobs bill

President Barack Obama is using a new report on the income gap between the richest Americans and everyone else to continue pushing for passage of his stalled $447 billion jobs bill.

Senh: There's nothing much here that we haven't already seen in previous articles, but it's a good summary of what has happened with the jobs bill so far. What I'm wondering is if it makes much of a difference for Barack Obama to go out and promote his job plan when Republicans are so opposed to it. People can't vote on this, it's up the lawmakers in congress to pass it.

Obama signs two more jobs-related orders

President Obama signed two more executive memorandums today, saying they will help employment at a time when congressional Republicans are blocking his $447 billion jobs bill.

Senh: The two executive orders seem kinda minor - speeding up federal R&D projects to the marketplace and a site listing federal programs for businesses looking to export jobs. USAjobs.gov was embarassing, so let's hope there's more thought and better execution on the new orders.

Opposition growing to Obama jobs plan

Opposition growing to Obama jobs plan

President Obama is getting push back from Republicans and Democrats alike to his $447 billion jobs plan... While those concerns are what House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., called "anecdotal" rather than unanimous, the hesitance by some Democrats to embrace the entire plan could force the White House to accept its breakup into smaller pieces.
