Timber From State Forests Adds To Ohio’s Income, But Environmentalists Fret

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — The backpacking trails that run through Shawnee State Forest, known as Ohio’s “little Smoky Mountains,” wind up long ridgelines, many of which look out over rolling blue hills and lush green valleys. But along some ridges, the landscape appears almost barren.
