The U.S. Forest Service has announced new fire restrictions and released more information about recreation site closures in the Rocky Mountain Region and due to the coronavirus outbreak. The Forest Service already announced a series of closures in Colorado but further clarified them this week. “Developed” recreation sites are temporarily closed, according to a news release, while dispersed camping, hiking and river activities are “allowed but discouraged.” Developed recreation sites include campgrounds, day-use areas, picnic areas and any other amenities involving a “constructed facility.” That includes potable water stations, fire rings and grills, picnic tables, restrooms and trash cans. Parking facilities, trails and trailheads remain open.
