Wickliffe Police Department holding bike auction

Community reportThe Wickliffe Police Department, 28730 Ridge Road, will be holding a bike auction at 6 p.m. on June 20. Fifty-five bicycles, including Mongoose, Schwinn, Roadmaster, and Huffy, will be available for auction. Pre-auction viewing will be held from 6 to 7 p.m., June 19, at the police department, 28730 Ridge Road.

Encore NEO developing new program for aging population in Lake, Geauga counties

Encore NEO, a nonprofit organization based in Northeast Ohio that is committed to helping individuals ages 50 and above, is expanding its reach.David Cowen, who is a member of the organization, said while the Cleveland Foundation started Encore Cleveland back in 2013 for Northeast Ohio, there isn't a county-level program that really focuses on using the skills, knowledge, and passions of this age group to solve problems in their community.

 

Garfield National Historic Site to host outdoor concert

Community reportThe National Park Service staff of James A. Garfield National Historic Site will host a free outdoor concert by the University Heights Symphonic Band at 7:30 p.m., June 21. The concert will take place on the grounds behind President and Mrs. Garfield's Mentor home.The band began in 1970 as a summer-season performing band.

 

Mentor Public Library throwing ukulele party

Community reportThe Mentor Public Library is throwing a ukulele party at 1:30 p.m., June 24, at the Main Branch, 8215 Mentor Ave.Arrowhead Music instructor Mark Herkner will perform a few songs and offer tips for playing ukuleles. And the library will have ukuleles available so that anyone else can make music, too, according to a news release.

 

Painesville Twp. man accused of assault

A 44-year-old Painesville Township man accused of trying to cause physical harm to another individual June 11 in Painesville was arraigned in Painesville Municipal Court on a pair of related charges, court records show.Charles E. Strong Jr. whose address is listed as 454 Reed Ave., faces second-degree felony felonious assault and second-degree misdemeanor criminal damaging and endangering charges.

 

Eastlake kicks off Safe Passage Initiative

Eastlake Police Department's June 12 kick-off of its Safe Passage Initiative proved to a success as several of the city's residents came out seeking help for their addictions.Due to publicity of the event ahead of time, the Police Department was able to place one addict in a program prior to the event and received three phone calls requesting assistance the day of and had three more walk in requesting assistance during the event.
