Five security alerts are issued for Facebook as security firms say social networking sites are tempting targets for hackers.

Tencent, China's largest Internet portal mostly known to us for its hugely popular instant messenger product QQ, published an updated report on the user numbers of its social networking service QZone last week.

After a wave of protests from its users, Facebook said it would withdraw changes to its so-called terms of service concerning the data supplied by its users.

Biz Stone just announced on the official Twitter blog that Twitter closed a round of funding last night with Benchmark and Institutional Venture Partners. Stone says the company was not actively looking for additional funding but was impressed by both of the VCs (and presumably impressived by very favorable terms, as well).

Entries on the internet encyclopedia Wikipedia may have to be pre-approved after it wrongly claimed that Senator Edward Kennedy had died. The user-generated site, in which members of the public are encouraged to provide the entries, is to review the rules governing contributions. It could lead to entries being centrally approved before being published, which would constitute a radical overhaul of the site's operations.
