Upgrading Firefox 3.6 to Firefox 8 Not As Painful As You Might Think

Upgrading Firefox 3.6 to Firefox 8 Not As Painful As You Might Think

I had resisted upgrading Mozilla’s Firefox 3.6 to Firefox 4 because I wasn't sure if all of my add-ons were available for the then newest release. Fast forward a year or two, and I'm five versions behind.

I finally took the plunge when Firefox 8 was released last week because I didn't want to fall too far behind. 3.6 was getting a little sluggish and was no longer the most widely used version of Firefox.

Firefox 8 Officially Arrives November 8 But It’s Available for Download Now

The new major release of Mozilla’s web browser, Firefox 8, officially launches Nov. 8. However, as usual, it’s available to download on Mozilla’s servers a bit early, meaning you can install it right now.

Senh: I'm still on 3.6! Maybe it's finally time to upgrade.

Mozilla and Microsoft release custom Firefox with Bing

Mozilla and MIcrosoft have teamed up to release a special version of Firefox that integrates Bing as the default search engine.

Senh: Isn't this sleeping with the enemy? I guess Microsoft is so desperate to get ahead in the search market that they're working with their web browser rival Firefox. It's a good move. Like it or not, Firefox isn't going anywhere, and they occupy 20% of the web browser market.

Firefox 6 available for download

Ahead of an expected Tuesday release, Mozilla has put up Firefox 6 up for download for Mac, Windows and Linux on its FTP servers. As could be expected from Mozilla’s new, faster updating schedule, the changes in Firefox 6 appear to be mostly incremental.

Internet Explorer IQ report appears to be a hoax

A report claiming Internet Explorer users scored lower on IQ tests than users of other Web browsers appears to have been an elaborate hoax.

Are Internet Explorer users dumb?

Are Internet Explorer users dumb?

Are users of other Web browsers smarter than the people who use Microsoft's Internet Explorer? A new survey doesn't quite say so. But it sure as heck suggests it. The survey by AptiQuant, a Vancouver-based Web consulting company, gave more than 100,000 participants an IQ test, while monitoring which browser they used to take the test.

Google’s Chrome web browser now has 20.7% of web browser global market share at cost of IE, Firefox

Google’s Chrome web browser now has 20.7% of web browser global market share at cost of IE, Firefox

According to the analytics firm StatCounter, Google's Chrome web browser now has a 20.7% grip of the web browser market -- seven times more than it had just two years ago.

Senh: This is very impressive. When Chrome first launched, it was well-received, but adoption was slow. Some have even written it off as a niche market for the tech crowd. Now, it looks like it'll be a major player and a threat to Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Chrome is sleek and fast. When addon's for it catches up with Firefox, I'll probably make the switch too. Currently, I'm using Firefox for web development, and Chrome for general browsing. I barely touch IE, except to make sure that my websites look ok on it.

IE6 is alive and well and China is to blame

The most recent statistics according to the IE6 Countdown shows that the world as a whole is at 10.9% usage on IE6. The United States, Turkey, Canada, Brazil, Russia, Australia, New Zealand and the UK are at the top (bottom) of the list with under 3% of overall browsers running as IE6. Norway leads everyone at 0.4% and their neighbors in Finland are at 0.8%.

IE9 can't stop Microsoft's browser slump

IE9 can't stop Microsoft's browser slump

The March launches of Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) and Firefox 4 failed to stop Microsoft's and Mozilla's decline in browser share, new Web usage data shows.
