New Romney ad hits Obama on the "fine" economy

Presumptive presidential nominee Mitt Romney has released a Web video hammering President Barack Obama for his assertion Friday that "the economy is doing fine."

Senh: In Barack Obama's defense, the economy is improving overall the past week. Sin-Mao writes, "U.S. jobless claims last week fell for the first time since April, which is great news after May’s disappointing unemployment and job growth numbers. Another good news is that sales from wholesale businesses grew in April. Wholesale stockpiles also grew in that month, which is an indication that we should see economic growth for the April-June quarter."

President Barack Obama, seeking to clarify comments about the strength of the U.S. economy, said later Friday it is "absolutely clear" that the U.S. economy is "not doing fine." Obama spoke hours after saying in a White House news conference that "the private sector is doing fine." Republicans pounced on those comments, saying they showed Obama had a lack of understanding about the nation's economic woes.

It was the Hoover Dam of mental blocks. Pundits referred to it as a “brain freeze” or a “gaffe.” In Internet parlance, it was an “epic FAIL.” But to neuroscientists, what happened to Texas Gov. Rick Perry Wednesday night looked like something very ordinary, exacerbated by stress: a “retrieval failure.”

Senh: It happens to me all the time, so I can sympathize with Rick Perry. It also probably means I have no business in politics.

GOP debate features stymied Rick Perry, defiant Herman Cain

Perry, who struggled in his previous debate performances, was talking about the three departments that he would cut to curb the size of the federal government. He named two — Education and Commerce — but for an excruciating period searched his mind for the third, as competitors tried to help him out.

Senh: Rick Perry seems more gaffe prone than Joe Biden. I feel bad for him. We are have similar incidents happen to us, we just don't have the spotlight on us when that happens.
